THE CHESS CLUB

Two Residents and long-term chess fans, Sean and Jaco, had been discussing how to get chess going at Eagle Canyon.

The idea was for all ages, but in particular, to encourage the love of this sport in youngsters. Their investigation led to Jaco contacting the Johannesburg North West Chess Club (JNW Chess Club) under JNW president Marcel Fauconier. They approached the HOA and Country Club and wheels were put in motion to secure the clubhouse. JNW Chess Club, which falls under Johannesburg Metro Chess, is a meeting place for those who enjoy the game of strategy.

“We aim to get more people involved in the game which is fast becoming a sport of choice for youngsters,” share the organisers. With over 100 members, JNW Chess hosts monthly tournaments (January to October) at various schools within the JNW region. Visit www.jnwchess.co.za for more information. However, no matter what your age, you are encouraged to meet at the Clubhouse every Tuesday evening and enjoy a game of chess.
